Attendance and absences

Missing school means your child misses out on vital information and maintaining learning routines. This can result in a loss of confidence and missing out on forming vital friendships.

Attendance is recorded each day. As a parent or caregiver you are responsible for ensuring your child attends school every day, including sports days unless your child:

  • has an unavoidable medical or dental appointment (preferably these should be made after school or during holidays)
  • is required to attend a recognised religious holiday
  • is required to attend an exceptional or urgent family circumstance (such as attending a funeral)
  • is sick, or has an infectious illness.

If your child is absent from school for any reason, please send an absentee note detailing your child's name, class, date of absence and reason to your child's teacher on his/her return to school.  If your child is going to be absent for more than two or three days, please email the school.

If your child is absent from school for unexplained periods they may be referred to the Department of Education and Communities Home School Liason Officer.

Students are expected to be at school for the whole school day. Where possible, appointments to doctors, dentists, hairdressers etc. should be made out of school hours. If you need to collect your child during school hours you must come to the school office, where the absence will be recorded and you will be issued with a partial absence slip for your child.
